1 Acre Farm is located in Milton, GA just north of the Atlanta area. We specialize in heirloom and all organic flowers. Everything is grown from seed here at the farm. Flowers are cut when they are ready to go to market, to florists, or made into specialty bouquets. We believe in using organic farming practices so that we can assure every flower you receive is free of any harmful herbicides or other chemicals. We also want to be kind to mother nature. Cut flowers you can find growing on the farm include snapdragons, zinnias, anemones, dahlias, tulips, gomphrena, narcissuses, celosia, sunflowers, heirloom roses and so many more! When fresh flowers are not in season, I also specialize in hand dried flower arrangements. In the cooler months, I focus on heirloom pumpkin arrangements, wreaths and garland using dried flowers and foraged greenery.

Mary Stuart Flowers was just named by Florists’ Review (January 2022) as one of their “125 Florists to Be Celebrated” and “among the best and brightest stars in our industry in 2022.” I fell in love with flowers in my childhood, watching my grandmother Pat create lovely arrangements for the Boston Flower Show with Queen Anne’s Lace, salmon colored geraniums and roses from her garden. Her hands seemed to place the stems exactly where they wanted to be, giving each flower a place of her own with room to breathe. It was effortless. At least, it looked so to me. I always try to keep those images of my grandmother, and especially her hands, relaxed and light in my mind while I’m arranging my own flowers. It is so important to me that my designs feel natural, relaxed, and even a bit wild. While my grandmother’s style has certainly inspired my own designs, the art and mechanics of floristry continue to change since I began watching her create in the 1980’s. My designs are made sustainably by implementing reusable mechanics such as chicken wire and floral frogs. I never use toxic floral foam or altered (dyed, bleached) materials as these cannot be composted and returned to the soil from which they grew. We must always be mindful of our impact. One of the many joyful experiences that have come from founding Mary Stuart Flowers is the delight I have found in growing my own flowers. What began as a hobby is quickly becoming an obsession and with the digging of each new flower bed and the repurposing of every bare patch of land, I continue to create space to grow flowers. I have also found great kinship with the amazing farmer-florists in New England who provide incredible seasonal flowers and whose passion for growing beautiful things is bursting from every petal. Using my own home-grown flowers and those grown by local flower farmers in my designs whenever I can infuses them with all the energy and love it took to grow them. When I launched Mary Stuart Flowers I knew that I wanted to design for weddings, gatherings and celebrations because the people who come together on these occasions come with open hearts and open arms, fully prepared to enjoy what comes. It means that I have chosen cut flowers as my artistic medium and that I am ever mindful of my actions with them and the imprint/impact my art may have on the environment. I work primarily with flowers that are available to me both locally and seasonally and I refrain from using imported flowers whenever possible; almost to my own detriment from a business perspective. I only use, teach and advocate for design practices and tools that are reusable, recyclable or compostable. My commitment to these basic principals has forced me to do more with less, make less feel like more and in my opinion, have made me a better floral designer artistically.

I am The Sustainable Florist in Phoenix. I specialize in local blooms and sustainable designs! After working in flowers for a couple years, I realized the need for more sustainable florist practices in Arizona. I noticed that florists in my state could do more to support local agriculture. I set out to be the example, and essentially the antithesis of commercial floristry. I want to do things my way! I want to inspire other young people to go against the grain, and follow their dream. Commercial floristry is full of imported blooms pumped with preservative chemicals, a large carbon footprint, tons of floral foam based designs, and questionable ethics across the supply chain. I knew that I didn’t want to contribute to those issues. I also knew I couldn’t be fully on the opposite end of the spectrum where everything is locally grown/ foraged for. I am trying to be right in the middle of those two worlds! I want to create beautiful floral designs that you really can feel good about, educate on the issues with imported blooms, and connect you to your local AZ flower farmers! I have come to learn that the AZ flower season is not during the bulk of the wedding season. I had to shift my mindset to view my business through lenses of sustainability. Whenever I cannot source local blooms, I source from my closest Mayesh Wholesale. My compromise is only buying blooms that will have the lowest carbon footprint and/or Rainforest Alliance Certified. From October – February I import blooms grown in California, Oregon, Washington, Wisconsin, and Florida. I am able to source some local foliage during that time, but still it is very scarce. AZ flower farming is on the cusp of great expansion, and I want to be an integral part of that. I cut out all single-use plastics from my business. Everything is recyclable, compostable, or able to be repurposed. Since the 1960’s, florists have heavily relied on floral foam to create their designs. It’s a super convenient mechanic to have. However, we now know it is a microplastic made from petrochemicals and formaldehyde. Plus, there is no way to dispose of floral foam without harming the environment! Knowing these two facts does not lead me to purchase floral foam for my business. We did without just fine until the 1960’s. It’s time to take it back old school! This is your sign to always request foam free floral designs from your florist! I am a firm believer that small impacts lead to bigger, meaningful changes. It starts with us! Being a foam free florist allows me be creative all the way through the design process! I have to figure out which pre-1960s floral mechanic is best for the design, or design a whole new mechanic. A lot of the time I use combinations of chicken wire, sticks, and flower frogs. I love that I am required to be intentional throughout the entire design of a piece. I am already intentional with my bloom selection. It only makes sense to take that same sentiment to the creation of my mechanics in an arrangement or an entire floral installation.
At Wild Vine Floral, our flowers come from our cutting garden when in bloom with additional product sourced from local Central Texas flower farms.* This commitment to “keeping it local” means that your flowers get to you fresher & quicker, giving you longer naturally lasting blooms that have a smaller ecological footprint than those sourced out-of-state or internationally. We only use non-toxic materials. We never use floral foam, sprays, bleach or dye in our products. Our gardening practice is an organic, holistic approach, though not certified organic. We want to have a minimal impact on our environment and work to help educate others to make purchases this way in order to leave a better planet for our future generations. We use our own chicken and rabbit manure, as well as worm castings, in our compost to fertilize our garden’s soil. We source seeds from small companies, using non-GMO & non-invasive species, in addition to saving our own seeds. We also share seeds through a seed exchange whenever we have surplus to give to our community. Our perennial garden incorporates native and drought tolerant species that thrive in the Austin area including herbs that delight your sense of smell. Attention to what is blooming in the native Texas landscape delights our sense of seasons as they change. (For example, Zinnias bloom in Summer and Sweet Peas flourish in Spring.) Seasonal floral arrangements are one of life's sweet joys. Our Flower Club subscription reuses mason jars, with an exchange at each delivery to lower unneeded waste.
