Amelia Peacock Flowers - Napa, CA

Amelia Peacock Flowers celebrates the fleetingness of seasonality in our bouquets and vase arrangements. We are smitten with the notion of no two designs alike because we are inspired by whatever's growing in the garden, and finding ways to capture and celebrate that moment in time. We bring the wild, whimsical, and unexpected to our designs—with an eclectic collection of vessels—for a range of style, occasion, and celebration. We are committed to 100% local and US sourcing because we believe flowers picked just from the ground, spending less time in transport, yield the longest vase life. We vet our farmers for clean and chemical free growing practices, and even dabble in some micro-growing on our modest lot in northern Napa Valley. We never use floral foam. Amelia Peacock is homage to my mother in law, Amie (nee Amelia), who was a force of nature, and greatly missed. The Peacock is a shout out to flamboyant hubs, who rocks a big beard, enjoys a big red, and appreciates the finer things in life. We are currently accepting a small number of orders through Instagram @ameliapeacockflowers while our site is in development. Please message us for more information, or email us at ameliapeacockflowers@gmail.com. **Amelia Peacock is owned/operated by Lori Diamond who is also the founder of this site, The Flowry. I am so inspired by this outlier community of eco-friendly floral artists, I took myself to class, and am learning this glorious practice. I encourage you to explore our sustainable floral design hub and find your local. There’s something about locally grown flowers in season that’s hard to quit—once you know, you know. Thanks for being here and supporting a more sustainable floristry movement.**

Mary Stuart Flowers - New Canaan, CT

Mary Stuart Flowers was just named by Florists’ Review (January 2022) as one of their “125 Florists to Be Celebrated” and “among the best and brightest stars in our industry in 2022.” I fell in love with flowers in my childhood, watching my grandmother Pat create lovely arrangements for the Boston Flower Show with Queen Anne’s Lace, salmon colored geraniums and roses from her garden. Her hands seemed to place the stems exactly where they wanted to be, giving each flower a place of her own with room to breathe. It was effortless. At least, it looked so to me. I always try to keep those images of my grandmother, and especially her hands, relaxed and light in my mind while I’m arranging my own flowers. It is so important to me that my designs feel natural, relaxed, and even a bit wild. While my grandmother’s style has certainly inspired my own designs, the art and mechanics of floristry continue to change since I began watching her create in the 1980’s. My designs are made sustainably by implementing reusable mechanics such as chicken wire and floral frogs. I never use toxic floral foam or altered (dyed, bleached) materials as these cannot be composted and returned to the soil from which they grew. We must always be mindful of our impact. One of the many joyful experiences that have come from founding Mary Stuart Flowers is the delight I have found in growing my own flowers. What began as a hobby is quickly becoming an obsession and with the digging of each new flower bed and the repurposing of every bare patch of land, I continue to create space to grow flowers. I have also found great kinship with the amazing farmer-florists in New England who provide incredible seasonal flowers and whose passion for growing beautiful things is bursting from every petal. Using my own home-grown flowers and those grown by local flower farmers in my designs whenever I can infuses them with all the energy and love it took to grow them. When I launched Mary Stuart Flowers I knew that I wanted to design for weddings, gatherings and celebrations because the people who come together on these occasions come with open hearts and open arms, fully prepared to enjoy what comes. And so it is with flowers; when approached from a place of celebration, they will present their most joyful performance. It would be my pleasure to flower for you.

Rose Drops & Wishes - Havertown, PA

"When I was young I would be the kid in the neighborhood known for picking all the flowers out of everyone's front yards... Well I am still known til this very day for that... I am the flower lady who goes around the neighborhood asking all the neighbors if I can forage this foliage from their yard, or pick this flower from their garden to use it in my designs. There is just something about having that freshly picked stuff in there, maybe it's the smell, maybe it's the nostalgia, but it's something. Every season I get so excited because I know, oooo in a week, there are gonna be a million daffodils blooming, or in a month it's Dahlia season; just having those flowers to look forward to makes designing so much more meaningful. I feel my eagerness might set me apart, my undying passion to work with the local grown flowers!"

Rowdy Poppy - Denver, CO

Rowdy Poppy is unique in the floral space as we both design impactful florals and also grow them on our small urban farm. This means your flowers get the utmost care and attention from seed to stem which translates to longer vase life, more fragrance, and overall more vibrant blooms. In addition, the total travel of your stems may be as little as a few feet compared to thousands of miles for typical imports. We are dedicated to offering flowers for everything from large events to everyday flowerings and give back to various social justice organizations throughout the seasons as part of our commitment to the community. Our designs are often described as whimsical and organic; we love mixing fresh, everlasting, and unexpected elements for one-of-a-kind compositions. We see the inherent beauty in everything from weeds in sidewalk cracks to seedheads blowing in the wind and try to share that with our clients by bringing in unexpected materials, seasonal elements, and as much local flora as possible. The mission of Rowdy Poppy is to provide unique, sustainable floral design that reminds us of our connection to the earth around us. To that end, we never use floral foam or harsh chemicals and all our materials are compostable, reusable, or recyclable. The flowers we use are grown right here on our farm, sourced from other local growers, responsibly foraged, or provided by wholesalers who supply US-grown blooms.

Here at The Peddler, we believe that beauty matters and everyone is deserving of it. Despite the reality of suffering in the world, we are rooted in the hope that a new creation is possible. We seek to be a floral business that fosters hope by creating beauty with our floral design, being caretakers to the abundance of beauty in the natural world, and cultivating beauty through meaningful human connection.   Because we know that flowers have the ability to offer a healing balm to individuals, we also believe that our business should be healing to the ground in which those flowers were grown. Through the months of June through October, we commit to using only flowers that have been cultivated from the farms and backyards of individuals living within a 100 mile radius of our sweet city. We also practice sustainability in our commitment not to use floral foam in any of our design work, instead relying on innovative solutions, such as agro-wool.

Three Sisters Farm - Cookeville, TN

We are a small, all natural cut flower farm in Cookeville, Tennessee. Zero chemical pesticides or herbicides used on our farm. Use all natural fertilizers. I started growing vegetables for my family, but then fell in love with flowers. I have been growing cut flowers on our farm for 10 years now. We started out with myself and three daughters (hence the name) farming our property. My girls are all grown up and on their own (they still love gardening), so it's just Mom now. I love working in the fields with all of their beauty. I sell year round, whether it specialty bouquets, wreaths or dried arrangements. You may call or message me to arrange pickup of my flowers, or you can stop by The Glass tangerine (cool house plant/specialty store) Tuesdays through Saturdays, or pick up a bouquet or two at The Painted House, both in Cookeville. Follow Three Sisters Farm on Instagram, Facebook or visit my website 3sistersfarmtn.com.

TJ McGrath Design - Plainfield, NJ

What does it mean to me to be a sustainable florist? It means that I have chosen cut flowers as my artistic medium and that I am ever mindful of my actions with them and the imprint/impact my art may have on the environment. I work primarily with flowers that are available to me both locally and seasonally and I refrain from using imported flowers whenever possible; almost to my own detriment from a business perspective. I only use, teach and advocate for design practices and tools that are reusable, recyclable or compostable. My commitment to these basic principals has forced me to do more with less, make less feel like more and in my opinion, have made me a better floral designer artistically.

Urban Desert Flora - Phoenix, AZ

I am The Sustainable Florist in Phoenix. I specialize in local blooms and sustainable designs! After working in flowers for a couple years, I realized the need for more sustainable florist practices in Arizona. I noticed that florists in my state could do more to support local agriculture. I set out to be the example, and essentially the antithesis of commercial floristry. I want to do things my way! I want to inspire other young people to go against the grain, and follow their dream. Commercial floristry is full of imported blooms pumped with preservative chemicals, a large carbon footprint, tons of floral foam based designs, and questionable ethics across the supply chain. I knew that I didn’t want to contribute to those issues. I also knew I couldn’t be fully on the opposite end of the spectrum where everything is locally grown/ foraged for. I am trying to be right in the middle of those two worlds! I want to create beautiful floral designs that you really can feel good about, educate on the issues with imported blooms, and connect you to your local AZ flower farmers! I have come to learn that the AZ flower season is not during the bulk of the wedding season. I had to shift my mindset to view my business through lenses of sustainability. Whenever I cannot source local blooms, I source from my closest Mayesh Wholesale. My compromise is only buying blooms that will have the lowest carbon footprint and/or Rainforest Alliance Certified. From October – February I import blooms grown in California, Oregon, Washington, Wisconsin, and Florida. I am able to source some local foliage during that time, but still it is very scarce. AZ flower farming is on the cusp of great expansion, and I want to be an integral part of that. I cut out all single-use plastics from my business. Everything is recyclable, compostable, or able to be repurposed. Since the 1960’s, florists have heavily relied on floral foam to create their designs. It’s a super convenient mechanic to have. However, we now know it is a microplastic made from petrochemicals and formaldehyde. Plus, there is no way to dispose of floral foam without harming the environment! Knowing these two facts does not lead me to purchase floral foam for my business. We did without just fine until the 1960’s. It’s time to take it back old school! This is your sign to always request foam free floral designs from your florist! I am a firm believer that small impacts lead to bigger, meaningful changes. It starts with us! Being a foam free florist allows me be creative all the way through the design process! I have to figure out which pre-1960s floral mechanic is best for the design, or design a whole new mechanic. A lot of the time I use combinations of chicken wire, sticks, and flower frogs. I love that I am required to be intentional throughout the entire design of a piece. I am already intentional with my bloom selection. It only makes sense to take that same sentiment to the creation of my mechanics in an arrangement or an entire floral installation.

Wild Vine Floral - Austin, TX

At Wild Vine Floral, our flowers come from our cutting garden when in bloom with additional product sourced from local Central Texas flower farms.* This commitment to “keeping it local” means that your flowers get to you fresher & quicker, giving you longer naturally lasting blooms that have a smaller ecological footprint than those sourced out-of-state or internationally. We only use non-toxic materials. We never use floral foam, sprays, bleach or dye in our products. Our gardening practice is an organic, holistic approach, though not certified organic. We want to have a minimal impact on our environment and work to help educate others to make purchases this way in order to leave a better planet for our future generations. We use our own chicken and rabbit manure, as well as worm castings, in our compost to fertilize our garden’s soil. We source seeds from small companies, using non-GMO & non-invasive species, in addition to saving our own seeds. We also share seeds through a seed exchange whenever we have surplus to give to our community. Our perennial garden incorporates native and drought tolerant species that thrive in the Austin area including herbs that delight your sense of smell. Attention to what is blooming in the native Texas landscape delights our sense of seasons as they change. (For example, Zinnias bloom in Summer and Sweet Peas flourish in Spring.) Seasonal floral arrangements are one of life's sweet joys. Our Flower Club subscription reuses mason jars, with an exchange at each delivery to lower unneeded waste.

Wildly Florals - South Orange, NJ

Wildly is a floral design studio in South Orange, NJ with a strong commitment to featuring locally grown flowers and sustainable practices. We design florals that evoke the movement of Nature while celebrating its immense beauty. Out of respect for the future of humanity and the beautiful planet we are all living on, Wildly Floral Co. uses sustainable practices in our designs. We forego floral foam and instead utilize chicken wire, moss and pin frogs to provide structure and keep florals hydrated, even in our large scale installations. We buy back vases and reuse all containers we can. And we use recycled and/or recyclable paper products for our packaging and shipping materials. Our inspiration is derived from the movement and beauty of the natural world. Nature’s immense beauty has the power to evoke emotion in all humans and make us feel connected to each other and to the living world around us.
